When with open eyes an aspirant sees that in this world after sense gratification people become sick, call on the doctors and pay their hefty bills and still are not able to get rid of diseases completely; one after another disease strikes them, then they get a little mentally disgruntled. If in this position, he is fortunate to listen to the saints who have renounced the world, then he may also forsake the sensuous objects and accept the life of an ascetic. Cunning and lethargic are born again
Benefit and greed
जहा लाहो तहा लोहो, लाहा लोहो पवड्ढइ
Where there is profit, there is greed and greed grows with the profit
Sharing equally
असंविभागी न हु तस्स मोक्खो
He, who shares not equally, attains not salvation
Value the time
अणभिक्कंतं च वयं संपेहाए,
खणं जाणाहि पंडिए
खणं जाणाहि पंडिए
Wise man! Seeing the remaining age, realize the importance of time – understand the value of opportunity
True learning
अट्ठजुत्ताणि सिक्खिज्जा,
निरट्ठाणि उवज्जए
निरट्ठाणि उवज्जए
Refrain from wasteful learning, learn only what is useful
Annihilation of attachment and aversion
रागस्स दोसस्स य संखएणं
एगंतसोक्खं समुवेइ मोक्खं
एगंतसोक्खं समुवेइ मोक्खं
With the annihilation of attachment and aversion, living beings attain total happiness
Practise good conduct
बाहाहिं सागरो चेव,
तरियव्वो गुणोदहिं
तरियव्वो गुणोदहिं
To practice good conduct is akin to swim the sea with arms

रागस्स हेउं समणुमाहु,
दोसस्स हेउं अमणुमाहु
दोसस्स हेउं अमणुमाहु
Attractive words etc. are the reason of attachment and repulsive are objects of aversion
Four restraints
चउव्विहे संजमे – मणसंजमे,
वइसंजमे, कायसंजमे, उवगरणसंजमे
वइसंजमे, कायसंजमे, उवगरणसंजमे
Restraint are of four types – restrain of mind, speech, body and instruments
