Speak not what is not liked

Speak not what is not liked

तुमं तुमं ति अमणुं, सव्वसो तं न वत्तए

Speak not that, which conveys disregard

Mother and God may be addresses as thou but all the rest must be addressed as Sir or Madam. These words convey regard. While conversing or writing letters, we should always use words that convey respect. If we use words of respect and regard for others, they will also address us similarly and show respect to us.

Appropriate words must be used in relation to one another. Use of inappropriate words must be avoided. They are not liked by anyone and the user is considered arrogant. People cannot listen to such people with interest.

In reality, words of disregard show one’s haughtiness and a propensity to consider others in low esteem.

To consider others low is to consider self as low. Such tendencies are not seen in dignified men.

Wise men advice, “Never speak words which are not liked by others.”
