उदगस्स फासेण सिया य सिद्धी,
सिज्झंसु पाणा बहवे दगंसि

If purity were possible with the touch of water (bathing), then many water-beings would have got liberated

Many people think that they have purified themselves by bathing. Such people have blind faith. They do not understand that there is a lot of difference between body cleaning and self- cleaning. Penance – special is seen directly, but caste-special is not seen

Loss of body strength due to penance is seen directly; by observing one we can find out whether a particular person has done penance or not. Due to penance, one’s body may be depleted but not the mind. His face shines like moonlight. A man of austerity is good-natured – practitioner of virtues. Answering this question, it has been said that the one who is greedy, he speaks lies to fulfill his cravings. Cravings are never fulfilled – this is a fact; but remaining ignorant of this, the greedy, throughout his life is always trying to fulfill his desires.
