Dutiful and sweet tongued

पियंकरे पियंवाइ, से सिक्खं लद्धुमरिहइ

Dutiful and sweet tongued is able to learn

If an animal or bird were thirsty, then he would have to go to a pond. Similarly, an inquisitive disciple also would have to go to a guru; but this itself is not sufficient for learning. Continue reading “Dutiful and sweet tongued” »

Karma influx (asrava), stopping (samvara)

समुप्पायमजाणंता, कहं नायंति संवरं|

How can an ignorant understand stopping of karma (Samvara) without knowing its influx (asrava)

Imagine a big lake and a floating boat in which many people are sitting. Slowly the boat starts sinking. Water starts entering the boat. Out of fear, people on the boat start yelling, “Stop this incoming water anyway; plug this incoming of water anyhow.” Continue reading “Karma influx (asrava), stopping (samvara)” »

Take no interest in enmity

Take no interest in enmity

वैराइं कुव्वइ वेरो,
तओ वेरेहिं रज्जति

An enemy nurtures enmity and takes interest only in that

Blood spot is not washed by blood. It can be washed by water. Similarly, enmity cannot be overcome by enmity. That can be won through peace, forgiveness, forbearance, love. However, some persons are such that they want to conquer enmity with enmity. Such people want to extinguish fire by kerosene, not through water. What sort of foolishness is this? Extinction of accumulated karma

तुट्टन्ति पावकम्माणि
