The foundation of good conduct

The foundation of good conduct

नादंसणिस्स नाणं, नाणेण विणा न होंति चरणगुणा

Without right perception, knowledge is not acquired and without knowledge right conduct is not possible

If the perception is not right, then man cannot acquire right knowledge; and until perception be right, truth cannot be discovered and for this it is necessary that he himself should be right. Before the right knowledge one must have right perception. Continue reading “The foundation of good conduct” »

Instruments of religion must be in agreement with science and instruments of science with religion. Thus, religion must get related with science; both should be in agreement. Knowledge and conduct

Knowledge and conduct

आहसु विज्जाचरणं पमोक्खं

Through knowledge and conduct only, one can get moksha (liberation)

As the eyes and legs – both are necessary to walk, so are both the knowledge and conduct important to attain moksha. Without the conduct, knowledge is lame; and without the knowledge, conduct is blind. A lame man is not able to move but he can see. Opposed to this, a blind man can walk but because of wrong direction, he can reach a wrong place. Therefore, an intelligent man needs to conduct himself as much as the man of good conduct needs to acquire knowledge. Continue reading “Knowledge and conduct” »

Study of Vedas

Study of Vedas

वेया अहीया न भवन्ति ताणं

Study of vedas cannot protect

To believe that a particular person who has studied Vedas is respected, venerable and pure is a delusion. Why? I am saying this because respectability, regard and venerability is associated with good conduct, renunciation, benevolence, good conduct and other virtues; not with the study of Vedas.
